eResources

St. Martin's LIS subscribes to a variety of eResources including books, databases, referencing software and image collections. For a full alphabetical list please look at the eResources A to Z page. These resources are available 24 hours and accessible from any computer with an internet connection. Access is limited to St. Martin's students and staff by authorised login, usually an ATHENS password. Please look at the ATHENS page for further information. Some eResources have their own logins, details of which are available next to the resource entry on the eResources A - Z page. You can only access this information from a College-networked PC. Please contact the library if you cannot access this.

Databases

Databases are electronic indexes that allow you to search a huge number of resources in one go. Most of them are lists of references to journal articles, some contain the full text of articles and others list resources such as images. As well as subject-specific Databases, you will also find multidisciplinary Databases which cover many subjects. To do a comprehensive search, you will need to look at both. They are searchable by a simple key word search on your subject. If you need help searching the databases, you can make an appointment with a member of staff to have a one-to-one or small group session - please ask in your site library or get in touch with your subject contact.

Many of the databases only list references to the articles. Some include an abstract for more information. For information on locating articles in print or electronic format, please look at the Journals page . Please be aware that the databases include many journals that St. Martin’s library does not subscribe to.

If you are an NHS employee or are on placement in an NHS venue, you will have access to other clinical databases and full text journals via your local NHS library. You will need a separate ATHENS username to access these. Please ask in your local NHS library for further information and advice on using these.
