Copyright and Blackboard

You need to obtain copyright permission to use an item on your Blackboard site unless:

  • The item is covered by the Copyright Licensing Agency photocopying and scanning trial licence, which allows the scanning of college-owned book and journal articles.

  • The item is out of copyright

  • You own the copyright (you may be the author / creator of an item, but that doesn't always mean that you own the copyright)

  • St Martin's College own the copyright

Further information can be found in the knowledgebase.

You can use this letter template to send a copyright permission request to a publisher to use specific articles within your Blackboard site. Once completed, it should be printed out onto College letterhead and sent to the publisher – along with a stamped addressed envelope and a second copy for them to keep.
