Information for disabled users

 

If you are a disabled student or have a specific learning disability, which can make your use of the LIS and its resources difficult, we provide specialist help and equipment.

All parts of LIS are accessible by lift and have disabled toilets.

All the Single Study Rooms are bookable at the library desk.

  • large-screen catalogue terminal, near staff photocopier, 1st Floor

  • magniLink magnifier in Quiet Study Area, 1st Floor

  • large-screen PC in Single Study Room 5, 1st Floor.

  • height-adjustable table with standard PC with trackerball mouse in Single Study Room 3

  • height-adjustable table in Group Study Room 4

  • IT Teaching Rooms 1, 2 and 3 and the VC Room have a Loop system

  • the library shelving is SENDA-compliant

  • all new spine labels are DDA compliant for the visually impaired, i.e. nearly all of the Teaching Practice books and packs and some equipment

Carlisle

  • PC with a large moniter and tracker ball mouse on an height adjustable table

  • a large screen PC library catalogue terminal

Lancaster

  • PC with SuperNova text magnification software and trackerball mouse on a height-adjustable table, in Group Study Room1

  • PC with a scanner, which reads print onto the computer screen enabling the material to be enlarged (forthcoming)

  • Close Circuit TV enlarges printed texts for easier reading, Zone 1

Extended Loans

Disabled students and students with specific learning disabilities can borrow and renew 7 Day Loan books for 14 days and can borrow Short Loan books for 2 consecutive slots. (Short Loan books cannot be renewed.) Reserved books will be kept for collection for 7 days.

If you would like to take advantage of this service, please bring to the library a completed form available from Student Services.

These can be made available in different formats. Please contact Sarah Ruston (tel: 015394-30310) in the Ambleside library.
